Air freight rates are always quoted per kilogram. Either the actual gross weight or, in the case of bulky goods, the volumetric weight is used as the chargeable weight for calculating the pure air freight costs, whichever is higher. The volumetric weight is calculated using the following formula:
Length (cm) x width (cm) x height (cm) / 6,000
The factor 6,000 corresponds to a volumetric weight of 167 kg/m³. The actual rate per kilogram depends on a number of different factors, such as the route, the type of service or general demand.
